Today was our visit to the Sydney Cricket Ground for Day 3 of the Ashes. We got up early so that we could get into breakfast as soon as it opened. After breakfast, we got ready and set off to Circular Quay to get the tram to the ground. Our tickets included travel.
Day 3 of the SCG test is the pink test and it was lovely to see a sea of
various shades of pink. The day is to raise money for the McGrath
Foundation to support cancer care in memory of Australian former fast bowler, Glenn McGrath's wife, Jane.
We had no expectations of the England team and were sure we would spend the day
watching the Aussies rack up a big score and so it proved to be. It
certainly didn't help that England dropped catches. We did wonder why, before
the start, most of the England team were playing football. Joe Root, on
the other hand, was practising batting - interesting that he's our best player.
It was a very hot day and we kept applying sun cream and drinking water.
The SCG is a very nice ground set in a leafy park. There were staff
everywhere and a plentiful supply of eateries etc. However there were very few
places to sit in the shade.
After lunch, as there was little sign of England having any success and,
as we were hot and still jetlagged, we decided to return to our
hotel. More importantly we got back in time for afternoon tea which we
love.
